Donated by Winthrop Sargent (1852-1932) the original founder and first president of the SMG House. Possibly owned by Charles Francis Sargent. The Gilman family were fairly certain it was built by a Gilman in NH. Historic New England suggested it was a Centennial reproduction, which means a copy made around the centennial celebrations of our country.

The head of household was a member of the Fire Brigade, was responsible for his buckets (each house had 2) and was expected to respond to a fire to help with the bucket brigade.
For reference: What is now Main was formally Front Street. The view from the house included the working harbor, but may have been partially occluded by buildings; their construction dates are unknown to us. The pier berths were filled in to make the current Rogers Street. The map came from fitzhenrylaneonline.org
